Employment in British Columbia
British Columbia’s Labour Market Outlook 2010-2020
British Columbia will have more than one million job openings between 2010 and 2020. If you are looking for work in B.C., that’s great news. But, what does it really mean?
- Will your occupation be in demand?
- What skills and abilities will you need in order to work here?
- What region of B.C. has the best job opportunities for someone with your skills and experience?
The British Columbia Labour Market Outlook provides these answers and more. For example, it projects that B.C. will need 12,390 new nurse supervisors and registered nurses over the next 10 years.Where will those jobs be located?
More than 7,490 will be based in the Mainland/Southwest region; close to 4,900 other jobs will be available in regions throughout B.C.
These regions may not need as many physicians, dentists and veterinarians as the Metropolitan Vancouver region, but they do need workers in other industries. The Cariboo, for example, is expecting 470 job vacancies for nurse supervisors and registered nurses between now and 2020. At the same time, they will most likely be hiring 1,072 new motor vehicle and transit drivers.
