InfoCentre for Skilled Immigrants
Are you a recent immigrant looking for work?
The Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre (InfoCentre) is a free service to help immigrants with information and referrals they need to find a job in their field of education and experience.
The Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre staff will help you identify:
- Information on obtaining employment in your field
- Agencies and organizations that can assist in your job search
- Relevant professional associations and other organizations in your field
- Employers and employer organizations in your field
The InfoCentre is located on Level 4 in the Central branch of Vancouver Public Library at 350 West Georgia Street and is open during regular Central library hours. Clients may be asked to book an appointment.
The Vancouver Public Library also has additional tools to help immigrants with their job search:
- Books on careers, resumes, cover letters, and interviews
- Trade journals and magazines
- Online databases with lists of companies
- Job and career search tours that provide information about investigating new careers and finding unadvertised jobs
- Career Explorer – a free career and job research workshop
- Small business start-up information
The Skilled Immigrant InfoCentre also has online guides to occupations (or “Pathfinders”) helpful in planning your career path. These guides provide information about resources, agencies, and organizations related to specific industries or occupations. Visit the Guides to Occupations area or their site to find a guide for the kind of job that interests you.
