Multiculturalism
Multiculturalism is when many cultures, peoples and traditions live together in harmony. B.C. welcomes more than 40,000 new immigrants every year from around the world. If you have arrived from another country, it may be easy for you to find your community right here in B.C.
To learn more about the multicultural make-up of communities in British Columbia, look at B.C.’s Immigration and Diversity Profiles.
Multicultural Celebrations
Across the province, we celebrate cultural and religious traditions from around the world, including: Chinese New Year, Diwali, Vaisakhi, Hanukah, Robbie Burns Day, St. Patrick’s Day and of course our Christmas Day – and many, many others.
The third week of November is Multiculturalism Week and every year, communities across British Columbia celebrate and share the cultures and traditions of our diverse population. Your local Settlement Agency can provide information about celebrations and events in your community.
Multicultural Organizations
The Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies (AMSSA) is a coalition of more than 80 organizations providing multicultural programs and immigrant settlement services throughout B.C.
