Cariboo

The Cariboo is located in the centre of British Columbia. It is known for its lush forests and high plateaus, rolling plains and mountain peaks. While summers are long and dry, the winters can be cold and harsh.
Climate
The climate of the Cariboo varies greatly. Temperatures are influenced by how far north communities are, and how close they are to the mountains.
Levels of rain and snow also vary, ranging from near 25 centimetres in the south to about 75 centimetres in the north.
People
The largest city in the region is Prince George. Prince George is the service centre for central British Columbia.
Economy
The Cariboo relies on forestry, ranching, mining and tourism. The region was a popular destination for prospectors during the Gold Rush of the 1860's. Tourism is becoming an increasingly important part of the economy. Sport fishing, hunting, skiing and destination resorts are making an impact.
