Nechako
The Nechako region stretches north to the border of Alaska. Residents and tourists are drawn by the opportunities for outdoor recreation, including fishing, hiking, cycling, cross country skiing and camping.
Climate
Summers in the southern Nechako are warm. Because of its northerly location, winters are long and cold. Rainfall is moderate (under 100 centimetres) and snowfall is light, except at higher elevations.
People
The largest communities in Nechako are Smithers, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James. Immigrants make up almost 10 per cent of the region’s population.
Economy
The economy in Nechako is built on logging, wood products and manufacturing. People also work in mining, mineral exploration, game outfitting, guiding, fishing and tourism.
