Northeast

The Northeast region has one of the most active economies in British Columbia. Fort St. John is the largest community in the Northeast. The region is bordered by the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and the province of Alberta.
Climate
There are extreme differences in temperature between the warmest and coldest months of the year. In some areas for example, average daily temperatures can range from -21 degrees in January, to +14 degrees in July. Because of its northern latitude, summer days are long, winter days are short.
People
Close to 65,000 people live in the Northeast region. By 2030, the population of the northeast is expected to rise to almost 80,000.
Economy
The economy of the Northeast region is driven by oil and gas exploration and production, logging, wood products, manufacturing, agriculture and hydroelectricity generation. The region's service sector is expanding to support the growing resource economy.
