The Thompson Okanagan region in south-central B.C. is one of the most geographically diverse regions of British Columbia. It includes vineyards and orchards, mountain ranges, and high plateaus.

Climate

The Thompson Okanagan has one of the most comfortable climates in the province. Summers are hot and dry, and winters, while below freezing, are relatively mild. The town of Osoyoos is the driest part of British Columbia, and home to the only official desert in Canada.

People

This also is one of the fastest growing regions in British Columbia. Kelowna is the third largest city in B.C. (after Vancouver and Victoria).

Economy

The economy of the Thompson Okanagan is built on agriculture, forestry, mining and technology. The region has a diverse agricultural industry, ranging from beef and dairy cattle to tree fruit and grapes.

Tourism plays an important role in the economy as well. The region's hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters appeal to tourists interested in outdoor recreation, including golf, water sports, hiking, hunting, fishing and skiing. Wineries in the Okanagan Valley attract thousands of tourists every year.
