Vancouver and Metropolitan Area

More than two million people live in the Vancouver and metropolitan area--half the population of B.C.
Climate
The Vancouver and metropolitan area has a mild and temperate winter climate. This means residents can enjoy outdoor activities like golf, sailing, cycling, hiking or running all year long.
At sea level, the region's moderate to heavy precipitation falls as rain, while in the nearby mountains, it falls as snow.
The region is known for its temperate climate, stunning scenery, outdoor recreation and economic opportunities.
People
This is the most-populated and well-known place in British Columbia. It also is one of the most popular destinations for immigrants coming to Canada.
More than half of the people in the province live in Vancouver and surrounding municipalities. Most of British Columbia's immigrants settle in Vancouver and metropolitan area, drawn by the region's vibrant multicultural mix and economy.
Immigrants make up almost one third of the region's population.
Economy
The Vancouver and metropolitan area is the economic heart of the province. It is the centre of financial, educational, trade, tourism, medical and cultural activities in British Columbia. The Fraser Valley is also home to one of the most productive agricultural regions in British Columbia.
