BC identification card (BCID)

Photo identification (ID) is very helpful in day-to-day activities. You may be asked to produce photo ID for many reasons:

• Confirm your address.
• Write a cheque or use a credit card.
• Prove your age at liquor stores, clubs and bars (where customers must be 19 or older).
• Prove your identity for flights in Canada.

One of the most common pieces of photo ID used in British Columbia is a driver’s licence. If you do not have a driver’s licence, you can apply for a BC identification (BCID) card. Like the driver’s licence, the BCID is a wallet-sized card that has your photo, address, and signature.

BCIDs are available to B.C. residents 12 years of age and older. Here is the process to get a BCID:

1. Bring one piece of primary and one piece of secondary identification to any driver licensing office (See list of acceptable ID)
2. Pay the BCID fee and get your photo taken.

Your new ID card will be mailed to you within 4 to 6 weeks.
