Language tests

Find out when and how to get a language test as part of your registration or application to the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). Providing a language test may improve your registration score.

Do I have to take a language test?

You must take a language test through a designated agency to apply to the Express Entry BC (EEBC) stream.

If you register under a category in the Skills Immigration (SI) stream, a language test is required if your job offer is for NOC skill level B, C or D. You do not require a language test if your job offer is NOC skill type 0 or skill level A. The BC PNP may request proof of English language proficiency at any time during the assessment of an application.

Completing an eligible test may improve your registration score and strengthen your application.

How do I get a language test?

Please visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website for complete and up-to-date information on language tests, including types of tests and designated agencies.

If you disagree with your test results, please contact the agency that issued your results to discuss your concerns.

How long are language test results valid for?

Language test results are valid for two years. They must be valid throughout your BC PNP application process, as well as when you submit a complete federal application to IRCC for permanent residence. Please note that IRCC will decline EEBC applications with expired language test results.

What if I get a new language test?

If you get a new language test after you have registered to the BC PNP but have not yet received an invitation to apply, you must update your BCPNP Online profile.

If you get a new language test after you have applied to the BC PNP, you must provide us with a copy of your new results.
